On June 2nd, the 3rd China Cancer Particle Therapy Engineering Technology Conference, themed “Smart Hefei, Advancing with Particles, Empowering New Productive Forces,” was grandly inaugurated in Hefei. The conference was organized by Hefei CAS Ion Medical and Technical Devices Co., Ltd. More than 20 academicians and experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering attended and delivered keynote speeches. Over 50 industry scholars presented at sub-forums. Luo Yunfeng, Deputy Secretary of the Hefei Municipal Committee and Mayor, attended and delivered a speech. The conference saw over 600 experts, scholars, entrepreneurs, and representatives from research institutions, enterprises, universities, and medical institutions, who gathered to discuss cutting-edge technologies and industry trends in the field of particle medicine.

Academicians Yu Jinming, Zhou Yongmao, Zhao Zhentang, Xia Jiawen, and Fan Mingwu from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, along with Academicians Chen Hesheng and Chai Zhifang from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, served as Honorary Chairpersons of the conference. The event also featured esteemed attendees including Academicians Wan Guixin, Li Jiangang, and He Duohui from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Academician Wan Baonian from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as well as PTCOG’s 4th President Hirohiko Tsujii and 9th President Jay Flanz. Other notable guests included Hou Yan, Chairman of the China Medical Equipment Association, and Liu Lianxin, Party Secretary of the First Affiliated Hospital of the University of Science and Technology of China. The conference was chaired by Professor Wang Xuewu and Tang Jintian from the Department of Engineering Physics at Tsinghua University, and Dr. Lu Xiaoming, Chief Medical Physicist at the Ion Medical Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of the University of Science and Technology of China.

He emphasized that the innovative development of particle engineering technology is a key direction for breakthrough advancements. Professor Tang noted that the conference, held in Hefei—an area with rich research foundations and abundant industry resources—brought together particle technology experts and scholars to collectively advance innovation and development in the field of cancer particle therapy engineering technology in China.

Hou Yan, Chairman of the China Medical Equipment Association, delivered a speech as a representative of the organizing committee. She noted that significant progress has been made in the localization of particle therapy equipment in China in recent years. Advances in accelerator and superconducting technologies are rapidly catching up with international standards. Hou Yan expressed hope that domestic high-end medical equipment will overcome technical bottlenecks during its development and achieve autonomous control over key technologies and critical components.

Over 800 key enterprises, including HFCIM, have been established, forming a complete industry chain covering medical devices, biopharmaceuticals, and new medical technologies. Looking ahead, Hefei will firmly support the development of high-end medical equipment such as particle therapy, aiming to seize the high ground in the biomedicine industry.
